Neclace - The Clowns Nose

The PIROUETTE NECKLACE is part of the PIROUETTE COLLECTION; launched in 2012 and designed by Steinunn Vala.

"I am very connected to the PIROUETTE COLLECTION as it is based on a few things that I have personally related to a lot. The idea behind it comes from three directions. My youth, the lovely novel Water for Elephants and the songs and lyrics of Love Letter and Pirouette by singer and songwriter Lisa Mitchell.

Both the novel and the songs created a beautiful and dramatic scenery in my mind, so lovely that I just wanted to step in to it and live it!

Water for Elephants takes place in the 1920's in a traveling circus and one of the things I liked the most about the story is how the circus staff was able to create the beautiful and fancy world you saw there with few nice and decorative items. I wonder how many pirouette skirts the ballerinas had then and there.

When I was growing up I had collars that where nicely handmade and where put over my dresses. The dresses got to small or worn out but the collars lasted my whole youth and are even now still in use.

In the Pirouette necklaces I try to combine these things together into one; the scenery form Love LEtter and Pirouette, the scenery and story of Water of Elephants and the lovely memories and life circumstances when I was growing up.

So, please, wear the Pirouette necklaces over a worn out T-shirt, your night gown to make it look like a dress, your fancy black dress to give it a more arty stile or over your plain white shirt to hide a stain." -Steinunn Vala

The PIROUETTE NECKLACE is made of beech wood beads and polymer clay beads, with a 925 Sterling Silver lock at the back. The beach wood beads are imported from Germany to our workshop in Reykjavík. The polymer clay beads are blended and handmade at our workshop in Reykjavík. So, there is a lot of work in one necklace. The necklaces are Steinunn Vala's design, where she plays with color combinations. The team of HRING EFTIR HRING makes the necklaces one by one at their studio and workshop in Reykjavík, Iceland.

The PIROUETTE NECKLACE is approximately 45 cm long.
